Guests, especially solo travelers, those here for work trainings and business, also those doing the Ale Trail downtown and parkway love it.. younger couples in their twenties do, too. When is season (after April 15th guests may have private use of furnished, decorated courtyard with gas grill and front porch, which is available year round). Also, City of Asheville had tightened policies and insisted on HOMESTAY PERMITS that includes host is on the premises during the stay. It took me a few months to get in compliance. Booking with someone who does not have it can get canceled abruptly and result in a $500. a day fine for the host (not the guest) and a lost reservation, last minute with no refund for you. Also, beware the host who isn't 'on premises'. In Asheville, it is illegal and your homestay permit is invalid if your host does not reside in the same building. New strict laws are now being enforced, I learned. Those who have not filled out the paperwork and had a home/guest room full inspection, paid permit fees, etc. and been issued a 1 year PERMIT to have overnight guests. Most in basements, playrooms, back cottages don't fall within firecode laws.

You can grill in courtyard and there is a nice table and chairs outside and I do not use the front porch or courtyard when guests are here. Please Access my GUIDEBOOK. Though I enjoy the guests, I am in the background and available to help them make their trip the best possible. I do ask guests to 'endure' my 'six minute spiel' which includes info on internet, house rules, coupons, Biltmore Wine tasting ( for free)info., where I go through amenities such as samples, where iron, extra toilet paper, towels, blankets, info about turning off halogen lights which I leave on for guests at night; please turn lights off in room when you go out. I interact a minimal amount and realize that this is their vacation or quick getaway and most like to 'pack in a lot in a little time'. I like to leave coupons, and maybe act as a concierge and cab driver to events but give guests their privacy. Internet password is listed online once you book and check out is at 11 am.
We have a small home and after doing this for four years, and like to tell guests, right off, that I have a fairly new 1100 small home. I love my guests, but with sq footage, we will have some interaction. Although you have a wonderful room and private 'en suite' bath, you do have to walk through the living room to access your space. Although we are night owls, and the house is quiet from 11:30 pm to 11 (URL HIDDEN) 11:30 pm the television is off in the living room and you could hear a pin drop until 11 am. Our best guests are staying out late at night, and waking up rather later in the morning. Our happiest guests have been doing the downtown Ale trail, especially single travelers and single business travelers, ex- college roommates, physicians and residents, Professors on sabbatical, yoga certifications, meet-ups from different states, business men, single travelers in general, college students, grad students and young couples. The pictures of the room are exactly how the room appears. .International travelers who are super acclimated to spaces that are a bit smaller love all the amenities that I offer and love the front porch, free rides in the evening, on weekends, only, ability to use the outdoor grill, free breakfast items in room and more. We get out fair share of Professors, from Duke, Chapel Hill, Wake-Forest, Winston-Salem and Texas A&M, to name a few. College Professors just love our listing, and we've really loved and enjoyed their wittiness and exceptional insight into our little city! I ask that you please, please turn lights off in your room before going out, too.
Guests tend to stay out very late and enjoy the 'beer crawls' and La Zoom tours. I ask that GUESTS WILL TURN FLOODLIGHTS off if arriving back late, also keep windows in room SHUT at all times. Had an expensive central air malfunction from recent guests keeping their windows wide (URL HIDDEN) sorry if you prefer fresh mountain air at night. My whole unit froze due to overcompensation of warm air in room...
when arriving back to their 'home away from home'. Also, smoking is allowed on cute front porch and side courtyard of house. No indoor smoking at all(URL HIDDEN)too am a 'road less traveled' -traveler and it's great to be right near the pick up of La ZOOM bus tour, Biltmore Catawba and French Broad. We are more in a quiet location on the fringes of downtown, and on the edge of Vanderbilt's Biltmore Village (not to be confused with Biltmore Park 9 miles away) especially when you're getting a free ride to downtown ( one mile and 3/4) and you're in a nice country location to boot to rest and relax after the frenzy of things to do downtown. It's a great, super comfy retreat, with a wonderfully relaxing courtyard and a good 'Asheville yoga- beer city' vibe and try to check out the Friday night Drum Circle ! ! Check out the Cawtawba Brewery practically next door to me- plus I give out a lot of Triple aaa brochures and guides to keep you super informed about going ons downtown! No 'non-guests' without prior notification. Occupancy includes only those who were included in original reservation.
Hi to all,
I am a former New Yorker and Floridian who ended up in Asheville. We picked this place for its very close vicinity to downtown. The house is VERY small and I love it, after my New York property with acreage...I think, as a matter of fact, build a true 'tiny house' in the back and one day try to really scale it is this home is about 1050 sq. feet and fairly new. It probably is most likely not the exceptional choice for honeymooners and 'intimacy escapes' as your room sits flush with the living room. My daughter, Kendall is a yoga teacher at two studios here in Asheville and loves it! A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill (2013) and Tulane in New Orleans (2015), she recently was a resident of Chapel Hill, Charleston and New Orleans and is back in Asheville because this is by far the location that has the most going for it for fun, safety, open-minded people and good eats! The other cities are amazing but are priced that way...amazingly high...hahaha. You can get a lot of 'bang for your buck' in far as my home, it is fairly new and has location, location, location. We are a stones throw from the Biltmore Estate, The Corner Kitchen, Cantina,Orange Peel and Catawba Brewery where most of the tours like Ghost Tour Trolley (Grey Line) depart. Burial Beer, which is GREAT is coming to the end of our street..Also, HI-WIRE has a beer tasting annex in Biltmore Village and is walkable...Check out French BROAD next to our house for beer and music.... We are also next to McDonald's, Wendy's, Long John Silver's, The Bohemian, T.G.I.Friday's, The shops in Biltmore Village, all within walking distance. I went to school for cooking, so there may be a New York Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, Hummingbird cake, Berry tart, or scones awaiting you. I love downtown and am offering free rides into and out of the city which saves you about $9.- 12. per trip. Most of the cool tours like La Zoom take off across from the Orange Peel which is about a mile and a quarter from my location.
I will pick up from the Asheville Airport, too, which is about 25 minutes from the house. No transport from Greenville or Charlotte.
Asheville is the coolest place offering HungerGames Tours, Zip lines, a new Bikebar that was seen on Las Vegas 'Trip Flip' and is nothing short of hilarious, downtown walking ghost tours, a Ghost Tour trolley, The Biltmore Estate, Grove Park, Wicked Weed, and so many places to eat, not to mention go out and explore.
I look forward to meeting you and you can consider me your 'concierge and chauffer' for your holiday to Asheville. This is one trip that will make you consider moving here. I flew down from New York to see Rent, and moved here shortly after. I am a true Sagittarian and enjoy meeting fellow wanderers...lol...See you soon..
