Casa Caballos, a traditional, fully-furnished rural Spanish cortijo nestled in the olive-growing hills above Loja, glorious views to the lake of Iznajar and up to the peaks of the Sierras Subbeticas natural park. Centrally located within Andalucia (for Granada, Cordoba, Seville), great hiking, 4 minutes to village, wireless internet, SmartTV, DVD player, 11.5m swimming pool, kitchen, free off-road parking, 75mins to Malaga airport, pets allowed, wheelchair access, use of washing machine, etc.
Casa Caballos is set in 5 acres of land covered mostly by about 100 olive trees and a small oak wood, but also dotted with cherry trees, pomegranate trees, fig trees, almond trees, a lemon tree and various other flora, such as lavender and bay, which create numerous scents as you stroll about the grounds. There are no boundary fences, so you are free to wander. The neighbouring land in every direction belongs to local olive farmers, so you can get a sense of the real Spain!
The property is placed on a SW-facing slope, so wherever you stand there are wonderful views stretching out across the olive-covered hills down to Iznajar lake and up to the peaks of the Sierras Subbeticas natural park.
The 11.5-meter pool, with a separate safe shallow area for kids and non-swimmers, has been placed above the house for privacy & great views and has been fenced for child safety. It has its own 100-square-meter patio.
As well as the Stables and Tack Room having their own terraces, there is another terrace above the drive, a perfect place to watch the sun go down and the stars come to life.
Parking is available at the front of the property on the drive, off the road.
In the summer months, you can walk to the nearby hamlet of La Viña, where there is a bar beside a waterfall.
There is off-road free parking in front of the property. Guests are welcome to wander all five acres of the land, as well as the surrounding countryside, as we are on very good terms with all our neighbours, who are mostly olive farmers. Only the family home is private.
Yes, we will do our best to be available whenever possible to help with planning day-trips, help with Spanish, giving information about local facilities and activities, and whatever else will make your stay as relaxed, enjoyable and lovely as possible.

Casa Caballos is a traditional Spanish cortijo (courtyard farmhouse) nestled in the olive-growing Sierra Martilla hills above the large town of Loja (18km), west of Granada, in southern Spain, with glorious views down to the nearby recreational lake of Iznajar and up to the peaks of the Sierras Subbeticas natural park.
Centrally located within Andalucia, a sun-kissed region of rich history, delicious cuisine, vibrant culture and endless activities, Casa Caballos is well-placed as a staging post to all of the region's delights, including Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla.
Alternatively, you can stay where you are and relax by the 11.5m swimming pool, stroll among the 5 acres of olive groves, fruit trees and oak woodland, or sit out on one of the terraces with beautiful views across the countryside, under usually-clear skies (and brilliant stars!); a barbecue, a book, a glass of wine...whatever you like to do on holiday!
Malaga airport (75 mins.) has flights to/from 93 destinations, while Granada airport (45 mins.) also serves a few European cities directly, including Gatwick. Nearby Loja (23 mins.) is on the national bus network and provides supermarkets, a fresh market, shopping, restaurants and all other essential facilities.
Our nearest village, Ventorros de San Jose (4 mins.), a sleepy olive-farmers' community untouched by the tourist developments of the coast, also has two local supermarkets, two banks, a butcher, a baker, a petrol station and a sprinkling of bar-restaurants, which serve local needs.
Casa Caballos sits around a central courtyard and is divided into three separate dwellings; the home where we, your hosts, live, plus The Stables (4 people) and The Tack Room (2 people), which are both self-catering and available to provide you with a happy, memorable and relaxing stay.
We hope our guests find a friendly, relaxed and happy environment, with all the necessary creature comforts waiting for them when they get back from a great day out, or simply a day up by the pool.
We are very approachable, so any local advice can be provided, or help given to arrange activities in Spanish, and anything else you need to keep your stay stress-free and more comfortable will be accommodated for if possible. Just ask for whatever you need! We will do everything we can to make your holiday a memorable and happy one.
