Two miles from the University of Maine, Orono. A private home located on a 10-acre property, adjacent to walking, biking, and groomed cross country skiing trails. You will enjoy the privacy of the upstairs floor, 2 private bedrooms, 1 loft bedroom, and loft living room. This is an exceptionally beautiful, rustic setting; a well-appointed Maine farm house. Available seasonally for your use is an 18' above ground pool, and outdoor summer fireplace.
Guests are allowed to use the entire upstairs floor and loft, and may share the downstairs kitchen.
Because I live and work in this building, I am here most of the time. I am happy to interact with guests, help you navigate the area, and to find areas of interest.
Included in our household are two large dogs (Bull Mastiff, and Cane Corso - Italian Mastiff), and two cats. If you have an allergy to dogs or cats, or if you are uncomfortable with pets, this may not be the place for you.
Most guests have wished they had brought their slippers, recommended for the downstairs floor of the farmhouse where the kitchen and dining areas are located. Clean shoes are allowed.
I am an independent home birth midwife in Maine, now practicing for 25+ years. I retired from 40 years of nursing last year, and now continue to assist babies entering the world, and also manage a small holistic health business. Because I am on-call a lot, I stay at home more than the average person. That is how I have been able to create such a wonderful space here. My hobbies are gardening, landscaping, growing and studying herbs and medicinal plants, homeopathic medicine, and cooking and baking.
My profile picture is of me carrying a chicken, one of the meat birds we raised this spring. We try to raise our own food, chickens, eggs, and vegetables/ herbs.
When you arrive here, you will be greeted our large dog, Nero, our Cane Corso. Do not be alarmed! He likes to know who is coming in, and quickly settles down to a normal lazy habit of long naps with short play times in between.
This is an "early-to-bed, early-to-rise" household. We love the morning, and have lots of work to do here every day. Our dog and 2 cats gather in the kitchen to be fed as soon as they hear puttering. The day has begun!
Our interaction with guests varies. Some people who visit us come here on business at the University, and are gone all day, busy with their own affairs. We have the occasional group of hikers, coming to be central to several hiking areas: Acadia, Baxter State Park, Gulf Hagus, and others, all located within 60- 90 minutes. Sometimes I like to go on these hikes, and am allowed to tag along. Some families come with a planned itinerary of places to go. On a rare occasion, I may have been called out to attend a home birth during the night, and you will wake to a note and a collection of breakfast foods, with coffee and tea ready to go.
I enjoy hosting and meeting new people, and will assure your comfort. We are told we have great hospitality!
