If solitude and stunning views in a pretty greek island is what you want, then Sitarena cottage is the home for you!
It is a 150 year old farmhouse, recently renovated with all the modern amenities and tasteful antiques. Situated in the third largest plateau of Karpathos island called Sitarena from the word "sitari" which means wheat.
This area gave good crops of wheat from the old times to the nearby medeival village of Menetes which is only 5 minutes away by car or 20 minutes by foot from the ancient hiking trail. Menetes has very good traditional tavernas popular with locals and tourists. The capital of the island Pigadia is 15 minutes by car as are many of the fantastic beaches of the island.
The Nature of Karpathos.
Many parts of the island are of unique natural beauty. Some of these places are:
Trachanamos Area
In this area, there are cedars, which extend to the sea and are found in very few places in Greece. It is noteworthy that this kind of bush like plants are in protected zones. This area begins from the bays Lares, Adeia, Vrontis, and the foreland Marathos and its greatest part is on the mountain Kali Limni.
Extended forests with coniferous trees especially Pinus Brutia consist magnificent scenery.
The visitor will enjoy exploring places with dashing streams, breathtaking steep dingles, and green valleys with natural springs. This area is of great value because of its unique geomorphology and its pine trees. There are also many kinds of plants and animals.
Achata's Cave
Over the beautiful beach of Achata is located a cave with stalactites and stalagmites.
Mertonas - Katodio
This vineyard area combines the colours of the sea together with the colours of the mountain in a unique way.
