Tanya will demonstrate the basic steps involved in crocheting. Once you are comfortable with the main stitches, you will be shown how to start and finish a piece. You will learn how to read a simple pattern. You will be able to make a number of small squares in the three hour class to take home with you. This introductory class will provide you with the confidence to continue crocheting on your own. You will find hours of peace and contentment- it is a meditative and addictive hobby with practical applications!
I am a botanist and an artist. I am a hands-on person and find much relaxation and peace in undertaking artistic projects. I have good communication skills and ~30 years of teaching experience. I have taught biological sciences at the secondary and tertiary levels and run science and art workshops for the general public in Pakistan, Kenya, USA, Chile and Australia. I have exhibited my quilts and botanical art and my work is held in private collections in Australia and overseas. I recently moved to Collinsvale. I am getting to know the community and being involved in local projects.

You will be visiting the home and studio-office of a working artist and free-lance scientist. Our house is wheel-chair accessible and designed for practicality. You will be surrounded by nature. Sorell Creek runs the entire length of our property and most of the area is covered by native vegetation. You might catch sight of native wildlife (wallabies, pademelons, echidnas, native birds) as you learn to crochet.

Tanya can tailor workshops to your needs and interests- just ask. We have two cats, one of whom enjoys meeting guests but can be kept away if you prefer. Our drive is an unsealed, all-weather road.
