Time to go off the beaten path and feel retro in the Lower City, or Podil. We will ride our time machine (old funicular) and go downhill to explore the most special neighborhood where tourists rarely set foot. We will find street art that all travelers know from the photos but just a few are able to locate. We wil step into a hidden pharmacy with mysterious cellars, where the alchemists are believed to have made gold in old times. We will mingle with the nuns and drink holy water in the oldest female monastery in Kyiv. We will hit a colorful market and try home-made specialities that you won't find at any restaurants. Shabby red trams that seem to sway as they move, cute old churches springing at every corner and amazing views from the river port will make our tour even more charming.
My name is Mila and I'm a certified private guide with big love for interesting things and strong dislike for boring stuff. I am fond of architecture, history, art and I want to share my knowledge and love for Kyiv with you!
We will explore a special neighborhood that has preserved an authentic retro feeling - Podil. A mix of cultures & religions, colors and tastes, Podil was everything! A place of fishermen & craftsmen, a huge trade fair, an educational epicenter, a multinational neighbourhood with Ukrainians, Jews, Poles, Greeks, Armenians living together.
This off-the-beaten path tour will help you know Kyiv from a different perspective and spend a nice time, learning curious facts about our history, architecture, lifestyle and culture.
