You will learn about life in Peru's most important harbour city. We will start at the Callao Historical Centre which is part of the "old Callao", which has been turned into a very artistic scenario, filled with street art which reflect Peru's cultural diversity, we will enter some art galleries and we will get a beautiful panoramic view of the dock. Then, we will go to the "Real Felipe" Fortress, one of the most important in the Continent back in the 1700's , which aimed to protect the dock from pirates. After, we will stop by Chuchuito to take a picture with Miguel Grau's statue, one of Peru's national heroes. Finally we will arrive to La Punta, which is where Callao ends, there we will go on a fisher's boat ride to explore Cantolao, the chalaco beach. And finally, we will have a typical Callao lunch, fresh ceviche and maybe a fish sandwich if you're in the mood for it.
I'm a passionate for culture, which is why whenever I travel I'm not only into getting to know the most touristic places, but I also like to get to learn about the nuances in society. I was born in Callao, a place with a sailor spirit, which means I am a "chalaca". Let me show you the "chalaco" ways. I studied business management for tourism, and I'm bilingual in English because I also lived in the USA for a while as a kid. I can speak Quechua if you want to learn a little, and I am very fond for interculturality.
Seafood lunch: ceviche, fish sandwich or other exquisite Peruvian seafood.
The Historical Centre of Callao is not only filled with history but also art, we will access a panoramic view from one of its historical buildings to get a grasp at everything you'll be getting to know. The Real Felipe fortress is very important because of its role against Pirates, Chucuito is a very colourful little district and La Punta has peculiar architecture, the most frequented beach for Chalacos and marine cuisine.
Preferably sandals for the boat ride or shoes you won't mind getting wet and sunglasses if possible.
El Callao is 1.5 hours from Miraflores, bring walking shoes that you won't mind splashing in, try not to bring valuable objects.
