We'll have all of the challah ingredients sitting on the table. Guests will take turns adding the ingredients and mixing. Once it's a firm dough, each person will get their own generous sized piece to knead. We'll braid the challah and I'll show how to form some unique shapes. While the challahs bake, we will sip tea and munch on cookies, and share something about ourselves. I'll discuss the history and significance of challah baking. Each participant will get two fluffy warm loaves of braided challah to bring home.
I am a master bread and challah baker. I've been baking and hosting challah baking classes for over 30 years. You don't have to be Jewish to love challah! I call it edible play dough therapy for grown ups. People become really happy and relaxed when they are kneading and braiding dough. We see that all the time. Participants open up and form a camaraderie with the others around the baking table. There is something soothing and satisfying about baking together.
