The day will start off arriving at the farm for 10am, there will be an introduction and tea/coffee and some treat to break the ice and everyone can introduce themselves. First part of the day will be more like a classroom experience in my new honey house, I will discuss all aspect of beekeeping from equipment through to how beekeepers interact with the bees right through to how honey is made. There will be hands on experience looking and using equipment and of course tasting all the different types of honey I produce. Basically the first part of the day will be all the theory and q&s session. After lunch we will all get into bee-suits and go visit the bees here on my farm and everyone will get a chance to work with the bees as far as they are comfortable with. All protective clothing and equipment will be supplied. There will never be any pressure for someone to do something, they can only go as far as they are comfortable.
My name is Olly and I'm a beekeeper & smallholder in the Dublin Mountains. I have been keeping bees for 6 year and I now have bee hives all over Dublin & North Wicklow, from here on the farm to the Roof of Teeling Whiskey Distillery, to Powerscourt Estate and Killruddery Estate in Wicklow. I produce award winning truly raw honey thats harvested from my bees into jars in as little steps as possible. My honey has won gold in both Blas na hEireann & the Great Taste UK. I want to give interested people an experience of beekeeping, a full day on everything to do with bees, honey & beekeeping.

The experience day is located on my farm in the Dublin mountains, just a 25 minute drive from the city centre or 5 minutes from Oldbawn. My small farm is 8.5 acres and is run as an organic smallholding where we produce all our own food from fruit & veg to eggs, beef and even milk when in season. Guests will get to meet all the other animals on the farm as well as the bees. The experience is a mix of indoors and outdoors
Rubber boots or hiking boots
Try and find out if you are allergic to bee stings, we will have protective clothing on but sometimes the odd sting is inevitable, especially when handling bees in the bee hive
