First, I will talk to the guests about bee etiquette, so they know how to act and move around a colony of bees. Then guests will suit up so they are protected from stings and we will walk out to the apiary on my property, light a smoker, and I will open a hive while explaining the process of what I am doing and what the bees are doing. I will explain in detail, information about the queen bee, the worker bee, and the drone bee. I will remove frames from the colony and show the guests bees up close, the eggs the queen lays, the larval stage, and new bees hatching out. We will discuss the flight of the honeybee, metamorphosis, the life cycle of the honeybee, and their diet. We will also discuss information about how to start your own hive. At the end of the apiary visit, we will visit the honey house where guests will get a tour and be able to sample my products which include several varieties of honey, flavored creamed honeys, honey mustard, chili pepper honey, etc. They will also be able to see the various uses of the elements from the hive in handcrafted soaps, lip balms, and other products I make. They will have the opportunity to purchase products in the honey house.
I have been a beekeeper for 28 years, a certified bee inspector for the state of Tennessee, and co-founder of our local bee association. I have pollinated crops with my bees for over 10 years, and have several apiaries in my county. I make different varieties of honey, honey products, and all natural skincare products with beneficial elements from the hive. Honeybees are fascinating insects, and it is important to help educate those who are interested in the importance of honeybees, why bees forage, the ever important Queen bee, and her hive mates. Join me in celebrating the Honeybee!
I will have bottled water available for all guests.
We will first meet at the honey house, then suit up and walk out to the apiary on our farm. After we have spent our time in the apiary, we will head back to the honey house for a tour and sampling of our honey products.
