Hi! My name is Katie and I'm a Certified Tea Sommelier and owner of The Monarch Tea Co. here in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada!
I suggest that you join our experience with your favourite cup of tea brewed to enjoy during the class. We will start off the experience by learning more about what tea is, how tea plants are grown, how it's produced and the harvesting and production methods ranging from Pai Mu Tan white tea, Oolong, Pu'erh and more! We will then shift our focus to how to brew the perfect cup of tea in the comfort of your home and discuss any tea myths and misconceptions around "the perfect cup of tea". From there, we will discuss how to become a better tea taster and learn about our palate and tasting notes in tea. At this point, I'll walk us through a virtual tea tasting, which you can follow along at home using your own tea! We will discuss tasting notes and the complexities that each cup of tea holds. I'll then walk us through what tea & food pairings work best based on your favourite teas. We will end the session with an opportunity for any questions and to share with each other what tea we are drinking!

Over the past six years, I've traveled Ontario sharing with others the art, history and culture of tea! As a certified Tea Sommelier through the Tea Board of Canada, I've taught on everything tea, with an emphasis on tea & food pairings. Tea & cheese, tea & chocolate and even tea cocktails are some of my favourite subjects to share with others. I'm now bringing my interactive workshops online to help you discover more about the worlds most popular beverage (second only to water!) and lead us through an interactive tea tasting with a focus on how to expand your palate!

I so enjoyed this class! Very educational and I feel I’m now well on my way to becoming a total tea nerd. I do not care for wine, but now I, too, can say things like, “I’m detecting a definite Chinese terroir, which a strong smoky aroma and hints of volcanic minerals.” I can’t wait to test out my skills further (once I come down from my current caffeine high, that is).

Katie created a relaxed and informative experience for my group. Everyone was surprised and delighted to discover there is so much to learn about tea. None of us had ever done anything like this. Put the kettle on ! It's so lovely and inspiring to share a cup of tea with Katie. She's such a vibrant, smiling host sharing her knowledge and passion for tea.
