Quirky, beautiful & self contained holiday let. Cosy converted wash-house, set within grounds of stunning Georgian townhouse in arty, small market town. Gateway to the Peak District National Park. Double bed on sleeping platform. Microwave & toaster. Use of garden, courtyard and new for this year our cozy Garden room with record player , books and seats with sheepskin throws to chill out in .
  • We were welcomed by Harriet as Steve & partner out of town - lovely reception and was given a comprehensive tour around the property and grounds. The wash house was really well thought out - country cottage style but with modern elements that made it a joy to stay in. Definitely a perfect retreat for a couple who are looking for a cosy getaway. Would highly recommend the local Le Mistral for dinner, and Carsington Water just a 10 minute drive away for a walk around the reservoir. Will be looking to return in the future.

  • We had an amazing stay. It was so lovely and relaxing would recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to go back.

  • I could not recommended The Wash House enough. It truly is a slice of heaven in the idyllic town of Wirksworth. We were greeted by Steve, who was so welcoming and friendly. He proceeded to give us a guided tour of the grounds and their beautiful garden, which was as full of character and charm as the hosts including some striking sculpters. The Wash House itself is perfect for couples, it has everything you need to act as a Base Camp to explore the stunning surroundings nearby, including a vintage record player with some great 70's and 80's options. N terms of venturing out, we'd recommend Monsal Head, Bakewell and Wirksworth town itself are very good options if you enjoy long walks. Nearby, there is a lovely wine bar called Mercia. They have a fantastic mix of wines and locally sourced food. Gino's pizzeria and Le Minstrall are also highly recommended for dinner. The creme de'la creme of the weekend has to be the giant swing in the back garden. It was perfect to lay in and whittle away the day while listening to music and drinking a great selection of wines you can find at Ken's. Overall, a brilliant weekend with some outstanding hosts. We will be back! Steve & Sue, I hope you enjoy the splendid drop we left behind! Thanks again, Alex

  • A quirky design, comfy bed and several nice extra touches. Village is nice and enjoyed a great meal at the Mercia. Thanks Steve for your recommendations and hospitality!

  • The Wash House is such a lovely, quirky and cosy Airbnb find. The location is brilliant, Wirksworth is a trendy town filled with wonderful places to eat and drink. Also good location to explore further out into the Peak District. Steve is a great host, he gave us loads of information about the town and surrounding areas and made us feel right at home. The Wash House itself was warm and comfortable. It had many little surprises, such as a record player and lovely handmade soap in the bathroom. It had everything we needed and more. We would love to return in the summer to explore the gorgeous garden as we had a great couple of days away. Thanks Steve and Sue!

    Patrick 2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We found the accommodation easily as the instructions provided were clear and accurate. We arrived on time and Steve and Sue met us at the door and immediately made us feel very welcome and 'at home'. Everything that we could have wanted and expected was provided, including milk, tea and coffee (oh - and delicious biscuits). The accommodation is finished beautifully and, although cosy, is perfect for a couple of days away. My partner was particularly enamoured by the record player and LP's and spent a lovely couple of hours sitting in the courtyard listening to records sipping wine! There is a supermarket just up the road and the parking was close by. All in all, a lovely couple of days away.

    Karen2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had an idyllic stay at the Wash House. Steve and his wife were absolutely lovely and welcomed us into their stunning home. Everywhere you look, there are objects of beauty. So much care has been taken to create such a comfortable and beautiful home and guest house. The garden was stunning too - in the summer, it would a delight to spend time there. The Wash House was small but perfectly formed with everything you could need. We enjoyed the adventure of climbing up to our snug bed on the mezzanine floor. Wirksworth itself is a wonderful place - the independent cinema, bistro, great pubs and, of course, the gorgeous countryside all around, make it one of our favourite places. We'll certainly be returning to Wirksworth if Steve will have us :)

  • A charming cottage within a great setting. The hosts were very helpful and within easy reach. The cottage was well supplied, and we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Beautiful cosy cottage in a quiet village. Excellent hosts, great find! Fully equipped with everything you could possible need. We will be back 😁

    Rebecca2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Honeyspot cottage is exactly as the photos show and Winster is charming. We met Alistair briefly and he was very friendly.

    Rachel And Manish2014-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Charming and cosy is a lovely description for this cottage in the equally charming historic village of Winster. The cottage is very nicely decorated and surprisingly spacious with a well equipped kitchen and large upstairs bedroom. Our hosts were very welcoming; They gave good information about the village and its attributes as well as practical parking advice which was helpful and necessary as the streets are predictably difficult to negotiate.. Winster is an old mining town with many buildings dating back to the 17 th century. The delightful Bowling Green pub originated in the 1300's and is worth a visit. There are some lovely walks nearby including ancient stone circles and wonderful views. The visitors book is full of well deserved compliments for Honeyspot Cottage. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet country break or any overseas visitor (as we were) wanting an English village experience.

    Karen2013-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazingly cosy cottage in the most picturesque village. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway - thanks Alistair and Christine!

  • A beautifully renovated mid-terrace cottage in the centre of Wirksworth. The photos speak for themselves and Jane is a wonderful host.

    Robert2017-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I wanted to spend a couple of days investigating the Peak District. We loved the little house, very clean and beautifully decorated. The area around is stunning and reminds me of my time in NZ - undulating, green and very pretty. Thank you Jane for letting us stay, I'm sure we'll be back :)

    Jane2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped. It was conveniently positioned in the town close to a good, well priced brasserie and near the start of some excellent walks with beautiful views. Jane was a truly exceptional host generously giving us many extras including a delicious welcoming cheesecake. Her real eye to detail providing a really lovely place to stay made our visit memorable.

  • What an amazing home from home - No.10 is a beautiful place. So much care and attention has gone into making the house really special - it is stylish, but cosy and homely, incredibly clean and well presented, but totally inviting and comfortable, ...and oozes attention to detail to really make you feel 'at home' giving you a warm welcome and so many thoughtful touches to really leave you wanting for nothing! Jane is a brilliant host and her homemade cake that awaited us upon our arrival was just such a lovely surprise. My friend and I had planned this weekend away from our kids and husbands to recharge our batteries - we feel more rested and restored than we'd hoped thanks to our super 'home from home' and thoughtful host! We hope to be back sometime.

  • Toodles Cottage was lovely we really enjoyed our stay there. Spotless and really well presented. Lovely little touches like the chocolates and toiletries sin the bathroom. We were made to feel very welcome and we had a very relaxing stay. Lots to do locally.

    Hazel2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Toodles Cottage is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect setting for our few days away from work and the city. It is perfectly positioned amongst stunning countryside with a host of activities (walks, Chatsworth, Matlock town etc) on the doorstep and all the local amenities you might need. We did not get to meet Anya, however that's only because everything is so well explained and we were so well equipped with what we needed to know! The garden was an added bonus and the cottage is well stocked with the basics, and then some. I would absolutely recommend staying here and we had a lovely time.

    Cazz2015-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days at Toodles Cottage in Cromford. The cottage itself was really lovely and there were some lovely touches like postcards, biscuits and sweets. The kitchen was very well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The garden is really lovely and we managed breakfast out there in the sunshine and drinks in the evening. It is close to Matlock (a short drive or 2 mile walk) and Carsington water which is beautiful and well worth a visit on bikes or walking. There are some lovely fields at the back of the cottage that were bluebell filled and nice for a short walk in the evenings. We really enjoyed our stay and Anya went out of her way to help (offering us extra time to arrive early and leave slightly later as the cottage was not booked.)

    Keira2016-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Toodles Cottage was absolutely perfect for our 3 night stay. It was close to all the places we wanted to visit: Chatsworth, Bakewell, Dovedale etc. The cottage itself was fabulous; everything we needed was provided and more! It is so well equipped and the cottage has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard. Eating breakfast in the 3 tiered garden overlooking the stunning hills of Derbyshire was wonderful! Many thanks to Anya who is a marvellous host (even though we didn't meet her!). Communication was spot on and little extras were greatly appreciated. We hope to return.

    Cressida2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A restful, beautifully presented home that gave way to a delightful stay. A real treat is the 3 tier level garden that affords breath taking views of the surrounding hills.

    Peter 2016-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Toodles Cottage in Cromford. The place was very clean and well maintained. We especially enjoyed eating our dinner outside in the garden area. Anya was easy to communicate with and very organized. We were however disappointed that there was no BBQ, as we had thought there was one seen in a picture when we booked it. The place is also on a main road which is a little bit loud. Other than that, I would recommend it.

    Gillian2015-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful little cottage in a beautiful part of the peak district. Easy access to a walk behind the cottage too with great views. Anya had great communication skills and did everything to make our stay as easy as possible which it was. She even left us firewood for our 2 nights stay. house was spotless and perfect in every way. Thankyou anya for a wonderful weekend

    rob2015-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • We've just finished our weekend at Toodles Cottage and we absolutely loved it. The cottage is very cosy, extremely clean and has some lovely added extras. We only stayed two nights (unfortunately) but we made use of the fire, Wii, puzzles and enjoyed the comfy beds. There are some lovely added touches at the cottage that really made us feel welcome and happy. It was really easy to access and Anya was easily contactable when we had questions. We would love to comeback and spend a little longer another time!

  • Wonderfull flat, very well presented and clean, more than we could have hoped for, for the price. We didn't meet Sharon but the flat was great. Excellent location , central yet very quiet. Very close to lots of great walks and climbing spots.

    Matt2015-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon was welcoming. She kindly left some basic provisions in the kitchen, which was well equipped, and the flat had everything you may need , including a spectacular view. Matlock Bath is in a steep sided valley and the flat , which is very private , was right at the top of the hill. The car journey is fine but you would have to fit to walk up from the town. I think it is a good choice for a holiday as there is plenty to do locally and the area is beautiful .

    Pamela2015-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. It is well equipped and we were made very welcome. There are fantastic views across Derbyshire too. Added bonus was stroking their lovely cat on the the way out.

    Amanda2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean, warm accommodation in a beautiful location. Lovely spacious appartment with a big lounge. The kitchen is well equipped and Sharron is even kind enough to leave tea and buiscuits for your arrival. Would highly recommend staying here. Steps leading up the accomadation are very steep, so not ideal for people who aren’t so steady on their feet.

The cottage was a short walk to the local shops. It was great value and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Quality accommodation, very comfortable and clean place. Good location for visiting the area. Cromford is a very nice village & the Boat Inn is very handy & does nice pub food.

    Jewels2017-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house and garden is quite unique as it is part of our national heritage. It is tastefully decorated, bright, clean, comfortable and has excellent facilities. It is very conveniently situated, we did not use our car during our five day stay, able to go out on walks from the house each day in different directions. It is situated in the middle of an area of industrial heritage. Parking outside the property was convenient. If you are going to cater for yourself make sure you take some supplies as only one local small shop. Lucy was an excellent host, quick to answer queries and ensured the house was very welcoming on arrival, warm, flowers on the table and facilities to make a drink.

    Pat2017-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy’s cottage was the perfect base to explore the beautiful Peak District. With walks right on the doorstep. Cromford was a lovely village with a decent pub to eat in. Close by to neighbouring villages if you want to explore further a field. The cottage itself is beautiful but as described in the description it has quite steep stairs, not a problem for us though. The road outside can get quite busy and noisy at times. Lucy is lovely and we would definitely stay again.

    Jayne2018-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage, well presented and beautifully decorated and furnished by Lucy, who has excellent taste! It's in a good position for visiting many lovely places, and locally lots of interest and canal walks. Don't forget to visit the famous book shop in Cromford! Noisy traffic is the only downside, but overall, extremely good value and in a beautiful part of Derbyshire. Thanks again.

  • Such a lovely house and lovely host. Fantastic communication, directions spot on. House was so beautiful, spotless and full of little bits and pieces and finishing touches that made our trip unforgettable. Location is excellent for a day in the peaks and dales and the village itself is lovely. Will definitely be booking again!

  • We so enjoyed our time in Cromford, in Linda's cozy cottage. Thanks so much!

    Lili2014-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice little cottage in a good location. Wifi and log burning fire were great amenities. Parking spaces next to the cottage were always full though.

    Adam2014-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great time. Location is great and you can settle in to relax or go to a wide variety of attractions that are well sign posted. Do be aware parking is at a premium though! Lots of lovely local pubs and eateries and plenty of scope for walking adventures!

  • Absolutely beautiful cottage with stunning surroundings. Perfect for a family stay. Really hope to come back again soon.

    Paul2018-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Linda's cottage. There was lots of space for our family of 5 and was a perfect spot to explore the region. Beds were really really comfy and we had everything we needed. Washer and dryer were a nice feature after a week of travelling with 3 kids! Linda was very quick to respond to any questions. Only caution are the steep stairs but we managed just fine by carrying our 2 year old. Neighbours were very friendly and everyone in the town was very nice when we stopped to unload our kids, strollers, etc on the narrow road. Parking close by was never an issue. A great spot!

    Nicole2016-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Linda's place. The house is charming and exactly as described. It was December when we stayed and the heating kept us toasty warm - the log burner was easy to use, perfect for cosy evenings in. The kitchen was small but very well equipped and the beds were comfy. The cottage was quiet and calm. Cromford is delightful! The nearby pub (just footsteps away) was bustling and friendly and the local bookshop is a slice of heaven! We would love to visit again. Thanks Linda for a truly relaxing stay!

  • The cottage was lovely and perfect for our holiday. My 2 daughters had a great time and thought the place was wonderful. The location is ideal for exploring the peak district and doing Alton Towers. Would Definitely Recommend.

    Yen2014-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had no trouble finding what turned out to be a lovely and well-appointed cottage very close to everything that we needed in Cromford, and not far by car to all the main places to visit in the Peak District. An excellent base for exploring the area, but quiet enough to be extremely relaxing. We'd have no trouble recommending the cottage to friends or family. Thanks very much Linda!

Tea and coffee including fresh coffee. Hand blender. Pestle and mortar. Some herbs growing in the garden. Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village full of shops, pubs, restaurants. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre. For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee Alexa tv with Netflix, Amazon prime and iPlayer and log burner, full working kitchen with sink, new induction hob and oven with bistro table and chairs plus monks pew seat and a wet room/ shower with toilet and sink. Bed settee, brand new from Ikea and is clean and comfy. Bedding is put away underneath. Quick to get out. It’s huge. Please note that I have the whole holiday cottage available for rent for larger families at school holiday times., however, by renting just the small snug, I can offer a cost effective stay to couples and single travellers. I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have 2 little dogs who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door. My garden at back. Which you can share which is ideal for dogs and has a Moroccan gazebo, decking seating area, pizza oven (by request extra charge)and fire pit. This is located around the back of the property, down the drive. It is secure for dogs to play in. The drive can be used to drop off luggage and by negotiation with the owner. Free parking is across the road also.
Beautiful UNESCO village with canal and Historical mill and buildings. Lots of restaurants, pubs. An amazing butchers and deli right across the road. Convenience store. Paper shop. Postoffice. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday. Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants). 20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall. Live bands at the boat Pub every weekend. Thu night quiz. Great food. See Facebook. Barley Mo Bonsall a short 3 minute drive or steeper walk is the most quirkiest Pub I’ve ever known. My friend runs it, amazing bands every Saturday. Yearly hen race. Attracts a quirky eclectic crowd. Food fantastic. A real heart of the Peak village Pub and always a fantastic experience. (On Facebook too).
  • Stayed for the bank holiday weekend with my girlfriend and Deborah was so lovely, welcoming and accommodating with everything. The space is a great space for two people who want privacy with good kitchen facilities a lovely comfy pull out sofa bed and nice bathroom. It was a pleasure to stay here and we definitely will stay again in the future

    Nathan2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little place. Deborah was great. The cottage was really cute - very warm and the shower and oven etc all very good. We had the luxury of the drive way space for parking as well, not sure this is always available. Deborah was kind enough to do a last minute booking for us when another place has cancelled and she hadn't been expecting guests. The place was spotless despite this. Did result in us not having sheets for the pull out bed - but I'm sure that's not the norm! Thanks again Deborah.

    Siobhan2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, quirky and unique cottage! I stayed for 3 nights with my partner and my dog and we had a fantastic time. Debora was so friendly, as were her two adorable pooches, who welcomed my cheeky terrier into the pack. The garden and Morrocan-esque gazebo seating area is a beautiful addition to the inside space. We were lucky enough have great weather, and drinking wine by the outdoor fire in the evening before retiring to the comfortable (and huge!) sofa bed made for a fabulous first night. The kitchen is well equipped, and thoughtful and practical touches like tea, wine and condiments were provided. The location is handy if arriving by train, or driving, finding a parking space was no issue. An ideal base for walks by the canal, the Black Rocks and just a stroll to the shops, deli and pubs! (The Boat Inn and Scarthin Book shop cafe I can HIGHLY recommend for scrumptious food!!) But what made our stay truly memorable was the warm welcome and hospitality we received, thank you Deborah and we will most definitely be back soon!

New. Cromford. Derbyshire Peak Disrtict. 18th century cottage in Cromford. Unesco village. The stone cottage was built in 1740. It has open exposed stone walls and beams inside. Log burner. 2 bathrooms. 2 bedrooms. Enclosed garden. Ideal for dogs. Off road parking for 2 cars. Central village so no hill to climb from amenities. Sofa bed in dining room which isn’t the most comfortable but ok with extra duvet. It needs the garden sorting ready for spring holiday letting. 3rd bedroom locked
    All except 1 locked room
Cromford. Derbyshire Peak District. Matlock. Close to Chatsworth. An historic village, part of which is designated as a World Heritage Site, surrounded by some glorious scenery. Cromford is forever associated with Sir Richard Arkwright as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Arkwright built the world's first water powered cotton mills here and pioneered the factory system. Cromford developed around the mills as a purpose built industrial community. Arkwright's first mill, just off the A6, is undergoing long-term restoration by the Arkwright
  • We had a lovely stay at Deborah's place and she was a very accommodating host with good communication. We found everything we needed in the house and loved Cromford! Lots of pubs, restaurants, cafes a couple of chip shops and a local store and deli, so plenty to choose from for breakfast or on an evening and the locals are all very friendly. I would especially recommend The Boat Inn for both a relaxing drink and an evening meal. The cottage is ideal for those wanting to explore the surrounding countryside, the history of the Mills and even go further afield, as it's just off the a6 so easy to drive around. It's not a countryside setting being in the village and on the main road, but the road was quiet on an evening so the traffic noise didn't bother us and we prefer to be near places to go on an evening, so that suited us perfectly. The only downside I could say was that I didn't find the bed comfortable and it was very creaky every time I moved so I didn't sleep great. But it didn't spoil the stay and it was a lovely base for a few days.

  • Nice cottage in an area with good amenities. Great for a short break

  • Deborah’s place is a large, well-equipped space with an enclosed garden in a fantastic location. It really was excellent value for money and we’d definitely go back!!

  • I've never used airbnb before. I had a lovely message from Deborah about our booking which was nice. Everything went to plan, when we arrived found it easy to find and was in a good location. Cottage lovely - lots of nice details and nice welcome gift from Deborah. We found it comfortable and a good base for Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth farm shop. Thanks Deborah for letting us use your house - will be back in the summer hopefully!

  • Lovely quirky cottage in a great location. Lots of room and cozy place to stay. All though we never met Deborah, she was an excellent communicator via messages when we had a few issues on trying to use the TV.. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

  • What a charming little cottage, the decour and the surrounding areas of this place were fantastic. Deborah was a brilliant host, easy to get in contact with and gave some great suggestions on where to go and what was in the area. • The cottage is simply beautiful! Jane had thought of everything we could have possibly have needed, such as jam and butter in the fridge, toiletries and even a coffee machine in the bedroom! We felt completely at home, and loved the whole feel of the place, and the peacefulness of the local area. We were cosy and comfortable throughout our stay, couldn't have asked for more!

  • Rose cottage is such a charming little place. Jane thinks of everything from starter pack for the stove to a welcome snack on arrival. As we got there a bit late the bagels were most welcome. A very comfortable quiet cottage. Ten minutes walk to the High Peak Trail, numerous surrounding walks and a short drive to many others. We highly recommend it to anyone especially those who love hiking or cycling. We shall definitely be back

It’s better equipped than any holiday cottage I’ve ever stayed in and Jane provides little things that are easily forgotten but very important such as milk and coffee! We would highly recommend staying here and would definitely return if we ever visit the area again.

A beautiful cosy cottage just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Wirksworth whilst located at the edge of some of the best walks in the Peaks. We have a walled front garden for the morning sun and an enclosed rear garden for evening barbecues and views over the hills. Inside is comfortable with wifi, TV with recorder (and some saved films). The log-burner, rolltop bath and country kitchen add to the charm.
We've added as much kitchen equipment as we find we need when we stay; plenty of pots and pans, a hand blender, toaster, various implements (corkscrew included!) and we leave a welcome tray for you with some tea, coffee and biscuits so you can relax as soon as you arrive. Fresh towels and bedding, warm duvets and comfy mattresses make for a peaceful night's sleep for all guests. There's a washer/dryer in case you want to do your laundry, a freezer too in the outhouse and gas central heating and unlimited hot water throughout the cottage.
Wirksworth truly is the Jewel of the Peak; a great town with pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars, a recently-opened arthouse cinema and with plenty of curiosity shops, a lead-mining museum tucked away, a steam railway and not a single high-street chain. Should you choose to, you can get all you need from the town for your holiday without using the car. Carsington Water and other attractions are only a short cycle or drive away, with major towns and attractions just a stone's throw (Bakewell, Buxton, Ashbourne, Chatsworth House, even Alton Towers for the brave). The leisure centre, a short walk from Matchbox at the bottom of the town has a gym, pool and a climbing wall.
  • Matchbox Cottage is quiet, relaxed, comfortable and so so cosy - it felt like home immediately and was the perfect spot from which to explore all four corners of the Peak District. Rob's welcome pack, and the folder in the cottage, tells you everything you need to know about the cottage and the local area with brilliant attention to detail. You can park right outside (an often under appreciated bonus!), there were plenty of maps for different walks around Wirksworth, leaflets for every local attraction imaginable, and the kitchen is well stocked with every implement and utensil you could need - perfect when you don't plan on eating out too much! And that bath - pure luxury.

    Alice2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Matchbox cottage is absolutely perfect. We had a great 3 nights here, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There was also a cot and highchair for our little boy which made things a lot easier. To top it off, Wirksworth is a fab town with great shops and walks. We had the best mini break and would totally recommend staying here!

  • This is a lovely cottage full of character and charm. It's in a fantastic location. There is lots of cycling and walking on your doorstep or exploring places like Bakewell and Chatsworth. We will definately be back. Rob made us feel very welcome with really clear instructions on what was available at the house and with a welcome tray of tea, coffee and milk for when we arrived...a nice touch after a long journey. I would definately recommend a stay here.

    Emma2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Matchbox is the perfect get away, everything you need in the house and in a lovely village again with everything. Perfect place to stay for exploring the area, thoroughly recommended!!

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • Very comfortable stay. Quiet spot with great views. Homely feel with decent furniture and some beautiful artwork. Thanks

  • We spent a lovely weekend at Painters Cottage. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the children! The communication was excellent throughout and Anne even let us stay a little later at check out. The hill is steep but we managed it, and we are from flat Norfolk! This is mentioned though before you book. We parked in the town, there is a car park at the bottom of the road and only cost £4 to £5 for the evening until 11am the next day. We have a rather large car and found it easier than going up the hill. The area is lovely and the cottage is in an excellent position to allow one to wander into matlock bath and we enjoyed some yummy fish and chips, a play in the park, a walk up the hill and some arcade fun!! We would highly recommend Painters Cottage and will stay again if in the area. Thank you.

The multi-fuel stove is lovely to have on when it's cold outside. The only difficulty is parking close by as the roads are narrow and steep but it didn't bother us, we just unloaded and then parked at the bottom of the hill. Having fresh milk and some shortbread on arrival was a welcome touch!

    Catherine2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had lovely, comfortable stay at Painter's Cottage, especially when the wood burner took the chill off the November evenings. Ideally located up a (very steep) hill from Matlock Bath, to explore the surrounding towns and wonderful countryside. A compact but well kitted out kitchen was perfect for preparing simple family meals.

    Ian2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend Painter's Cottage as great value for money and experience. Lovely views, very well equipped, was great to be able to cook as we found a lot of local eateries were closed.Cottage was clean, very warm and cosy. Many thanks

  • Lovely long weekend away. Though steep, so not necessarily for those with mobility problems, the cottage had the perfect location for us having come without a car. Just 5 minutes walk from Matlock Bath Station those not fancying the walk into Matlock can pick a return ticket for just 80p. Matlock Bath "strip" is under 10 minutes and, though steep it is only a 20 minute walk up to the Heights of Abraham. As well as the train, the 6.1 bus runs from the bottom of the hill into Derby, or a more country route towards Bakewell via Haddon Hall and Matlock Farm Park, and with a hop on and off bus ticket choice, it really opens up the exploring possibilities... The cottage itself was lovely and homely and enjoying evenings by the fire certainly added to the charm. Stunning views for the master bedroom and living room were complimented by the painting throughout. If traveling in the area, whether couple, friends or family, I cannot recommend this cottage more.

Beautiful 3 bedroom Grade 2 listed stone cottage in this historic village, formerly one of the Arkwright workers' cottages. Large and welcoming kitchen with island and seating, lovely dining room opening up into the lounge with original stone fireplace and impressive log burner. Original stone tiled floor throughout. Downstairs also has a 'snug' with sofa bed and utility area which leads to a small outside seating area. Very large master bedroom and fully refitted bathroom with separate shower.
Would suit a couple or large group alike. Cyclists, walkers, outdoor, adventurers, young and old....
Cromford is a wonderful and friendly village, steeped in history and providing ease of access to number of key Peak District towns, great walks, trails and attractions. Local village shop, a few take-aways and restaurants and two lovely pubs.
  • The cottage is lovely and has a real homely feel to it and is in such a great location. Cromford is really pretty and the canal towpath is only a 10 min walk away and right on your doorstep are a few pubs, cafes and shops. We had a fantatstic weekend here and would highly reccomend

  • We had a very enjoyable stay. The house was nice and clean with plenty of bedding, hot water, kitchen utensils and everything we needed. The pictures don't really do it justice as it is a lovely large spacious house that retains a cottage feel to it. It is perfect for a large family and the kitchen is a great social space with everything you'd need. The little town of Cromford is within easy walking distance (5 mins) and there are nice pubs and shops. We also got a Sainsbury's home delivery on the first day for ease. I would definitely recommend Corner Cottage as a holiday rental and would love to return.

  • Lovely and quirky, perfect for a night away. Two nice pubs within walking distance (1 / 1.5 miles). Outdoor WC may not be to everyone’s taste but no issue for us. Owners super helpful in arranging some flowers for my wife. Would loved to have stayed longer and explored the area via some walks.

  • Beautiful location, super cute cottage! We really enjoyed our short stay. My partner is quite tall so for him it was a little bit small but perfect for me. The stairs to the bed are more like a ladder so keep that in mind for anyone with mobility issues.

  • Paul was very helpful, giving advice of events happening in Wirksworth and where to eat. We each received a voucher for the micro brewery, which is located at the front of the cottage. The people there were friendly and welcoming, and we spent an enjoyable few hours looking through the records for sale upstairs and making a few purchases. Location great for walking, there was a small market on the Saturday with a great food choice and local produce. The cottage was just what we were looking for, quirky and cosy. Lovely bedrooms and bathroom. Good laundry and kitchen facilities. We stayed just for the two nights, would have been great to stay longer. Would definitely stay again.

  • This cottage is ideally located near the hills and climbing crags, in the centre of beautiful Wirksworth. Everything is convenient, and the pub across the yard is quirky and fabulous. Paul was a great host, and had added many thoughtful touches to the cottage. We were made to feel very welcome and we really enjoyed this spacious and beautifully renovated cottage. We’d love to come back soon, particularly to try out the local cinema, which is highly recommended.

    Anne2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The property was as gorgeous as the photos. Very comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and a useful manual that covered everything you needed to know about the house. Paul kept in touch and provided useful information prior to arrival, and welcomed us in person shortly after we arrived.

    Jane2018-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay; loved Wirkswoth and this house, just off the main street and next to the Church, was a great find. Paul was very helpful and responded quickly to all enquiries. I'd have no hesitation staying again and happily highly recommend to others.

Wirksworth is a small market town on the edge of The Derbyshire Peak District, an ideal location for walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. The cottage, originally a quarryman's dwelling, has been fully refurbished and is maintained to a high standard. The accommodation: double and single bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, shower room and TV lounge. Outside is a decked sitting area. Guests also have use of a croquet lawn, boules court and parking in the garden of Babington House next door.
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Wirksworth and loved being able to stay in such a cosy space in the snow! The views out of the kitchen and bedroom windows are spectacular and there are lots of sweet spaces to relax in. Wirksworth itself has some great shops - we recommend the bakery and butcher's! There are also some really beautiful walks close by. The only difficult thing is driving up the hill to park your car!

    Abi2018-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lots of thoughtful details. It was lovely staying in quirky Wirksworth in this pretty cottage. So warm and peaceful. The bed was super comfortable. The place spotlessly clean and Anne helpful. Thank you!

    Karin2018-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting and great views of Wirksworth and surrounding hills to wake up to. Charming, friendly little town. Hosts were very kind and helpful. Walks easily accessible from cottage or easy links to elsewhere in Peaks. Fascinating quarry partly converted into a park at the top of the hill, also worth a visit.

  • Lovely cosy cottage, pretty town with nice shops, places to eat and a cinema! Great short break for me and my mum, Thank you

  • Lovely place really close to the centre of Wirksworth, but with great views due to the location - We'd stay there again

    James2018-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • What we liked about the cottage; it is in Wirksworth, but just far enough away to feel calm and restful, the layout - over 4 floors and well thought out, compact but has everything you need, the quirky charm and the view from the attic window. Though I would warn anyone with mobility problem about the 4 floors layout and it is a short way up a hill from the village centre, it would not be for everyone but we really liked it and have talked about returning.

    Bev2018-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Warm, comfortable and well equipped cottage. Beautiful place and location to stay when visiting the Peak District.

Hidden away in beautiful Wensley Dale, locations don't come much better than this. There are superb views across the valley on all the lovely walks from the cottage. A brisk evening stroll along the road by the river will soon get you to the Three Stags and Square and Compass pubs in Darley Bridge. Matlock, with all its county town facilities is just five minutes drive over the hill.
The Hayloft has been carefully created out of a mellow stone hay loft in the midst of the sleepy little hamlet of Snitterton. It has a lovely vaulted lounge, dining and kitchen area. The lounge has a comfortable settee and chair, flat screen T.V. D.V.D, SKY and Wi-Fi together with a glowing inset electric fire. The superb kitchen has quality fitted units, halogen hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and automatic washer/dryer. A vaulted double bedroom. An adjoining bathroom with bath/hand held shower and W.C.
Don't forget to visit nearby Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Peak Steam Railway. Other treats include Calver Edge's breathtaking views, Monsal Dale's wonderful waterfalls, the 'little Switzerland' of Matlock Gorge, Sunday breakfast in the Devonshire Arms in Beeley and the ultimate of meals in Stone's restaurant in Matlock. Make sure you get back in time for a drink on the little patio as the swifts and house martins swoop overhead
  • A fantastic space on the edge of the Peak District. Communication with Wendy and Kerry was perfect, we would definitely stay again.

    Andy2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for two nights in this barn conversion, secluded in the countryside but minutes from Matlock itself. The place is perfect, lovely amount of space to relax and unwind or in my case work. You may get company from Mars Bar the cat, who kept me company throughout my stay which was cute. Shops and bars all in reach via a taxi or short drive, walkable if you are an avid walker. Great for couples and singles alike. Wendy and Kerry were easy to get hold of if needed and were lovely hosts!! Recommend highly to all!

    Joseph2018-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A small but sweet and well equipped space that feels roomy and personalised. Near enough to anywhere you may wish to visit. We had a lovely time!

    Millie2018-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful rental in a truly beautiful part of England. The Hayloft was well - appointed, stylish, and comfortable. A great place to return to after a day of hiking in the Peaks. Their cat, Mars Bar, greeted us every day and lavished us with attention and affection so we would not miss our own pets so much.

    David2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to relax and spend some down time. Proper country escape. Weather was typical British November but what a place to come back to in the evening. Pubs are available but with such a great little bolt hole we just unwound each night pottering in the very well equipped kitchen, arching trash tv and enjoying a few tinctures. Thank you Wendy and Kerry and the supporting team of horses, hounds and the cat with no name. Paul and Helen

    Paul2017-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay here. The location was superb, rural bit close to town and the supermarket and station. The loft apartment was furnished wonderfully, and we even had a welcome visit from the cat who lived in the barn! It's the perfect place to explore the hills and Matlock. And a real romantic getaway too.

    Graham2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little spot, great location, and friendly advice where needed.

    Bekki2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The haybarn was fairly easy to locate and is just outside Matlock. Great to have an allocated parking space right outside. The apartment itself is very cosy and homely with the wooden beams, comfy lounge area and subtle lighting but was plenty big enough for two of us. It was well equipped and tastefully decorated. We were able to get lamb and/or fresh eggs from the farm and on arrival were welcomed by Mars Bar, the friendly black cat! Wendy was there to help as needed but this is a great place for a private break in a convenient location for the Peak District.

Come and stay in my beautiful and stylish barn in the quirky little town of Wirksworth, known as the 'gem of the peaks'. The barn is situated in a quiet conservation area, minutes from the heart of Wirksworth with outstanding views of the town and countryside. Being on the edge of the Peak District, it is an ideal base for exploring this part of England, with great walks from the doorstep . Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other attractions are just a short drive away.
The barn is situated in the grounds of my home, but is completely independent and detached with its own entrance. Upstairs features an attractive large open plan living space comprising of a sitting area at one end, and a well equipped kitchen and dining area the other. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with ensuite shower rooms. The property offers a small outdoor terrace, ideal for having breakfast outside on a warm morning. For those with bikes there is a secure area for storage.
Crofter's Barn is up a steep hill close to the centre of Wirksworth and all its amenities, including an independent cinema and plenty of eating places. Star gaze, meditate or enjoy local fish and chips in our delightful shared folly located in the grounds, while taking in the incredible view. There is also a shared seating area which you are welcome to enjoy. Great walks from the doorstep and ideally situated for the Peak District's many attractions, with water sports on nearby Carsington Water. Wirksworth is a vibrant little market town with a selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Browse for antiques, books, toys and gifts. The town is also home to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, running seasonal weekend trains to Duffield. The annual Wirksworth Arts Festival held in September offers a mix of live performance, art trails and exhibitions.

  • Lovely accommodation for our family of three! A great location (although the hill was steep) it was totally worth the adventure up the hill! Centrally located to shops yet secluded too! Thanks for having us we enjoyed our stay!

    Elizabeth2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • If you like stunning views, handy hiking and a super clean, cute cottage feel then Nicola's place is for you. The apartment itself is lovely and immaculate. The countryside is beautiful. Yes, the road is steep and really narrow and make sure to go very slowly on the driveway but you will be rewarded with a fabulous place to lay your head if you press on. Thanks, Nicola.

    Catherine2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Crofter's Barn is absolutely perfect for anyone visiting Wirkswoth, and Nicola couldn't have beeen a better host. Great value let, with two en suite shower rooms and stunning views it delivered beyond expectation. Would highly recommend!

  • Nicola was a wonderful host and her cottage is quirky, charming and exactly as described. It can be quite tricky to find, especially in the dark, but Nicola gave us clear and presice directions. It's in a great location with amazing views and a great base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. A weekend certainly isn't long enough to experience everything on offer and we can only hope to visit again!

    Lorraine2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The description and photos are accurate. The barn is cute and quaint with homely decor. It was extremely clean and fresh linen provided. A short walk up and down a steep road to access a few local cafes, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the French restaurant. Thank you for hosting us, Nicola.

A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes; Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall. In 1724, the hall was split it into two halves. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with its deep history and authentic English country charm.
The hidden secret of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the famous Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall was a royalist stronghold and it is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from the hall to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724, the hall was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously known as a highly regarded country house hotel. Meanwhile, the other untouched side seems to have been forgotten over the years, until now. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with authentic and fascinating English country charm, plus a deep history that we love to share with our guests. Riber is a hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales, situated high on a hill overlooking Matlock; boasting some of the most dramatic views in Derbyshire.
Riber is a tiny hamlet, just two miles from the spa town of Matlock, 5 minutes by car from Cromford and Matlock Bath. Local attractions include Gullivers Kingdom, The Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth House (home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) and Haddon Hall. Bakewell and Ashbourne are both a short car journey away.
  • Was amazing to stay in this wonderful house for the weekend. Alison went above and beyond to make our stay special. Excellent breakfast too!

  • Beautiful old manor house in some stunning countryside. We were greeted by our friendly hosts and were given a little tour of this wonderful historical building. The decoration is beautiful, full of charm and character. The bedroom is clean, has huge and comfortable bed and the shower was lovely and hot. We stayed one night and it was perfect for visiting the local villages. There are some lovely off the beaten track walks just around the corner. Including a short walk near the house, which goes by a hidden castle being restored and leads to a beautiful lookout over Matlock. Definitely worth staying here to enhance your exploration of Derbyshire.

  • Alison's Manor House is a great place to stay, we had a great breakfast every morning at a time to suite us. It's only a short drive into Matlock and about 30mins to Dovedale for amazing walks. We hope to get back this year and stay again with Alison & Nick. We give a 5 Stars rating to Alison & Nick who made us feel so welcome and special. Highly recommend by Maria & Derek.

The location is perfect, right on the doorstep of the national park for those wishing to explore. • Alison was a wonderful host. Made us feel extremely welcome and kindly assisted us in our dietary requirements. The room was very clean and spacious and catered excellently to our needs. The house is situated in a beautiful environment with absolutely amazing views!! Alison gave us some local history and walking tips and told us about a beautiful folley just around the corner. Will certainly use Alison again next time we are in Matlock!!

The quiet but central location of Stemples offers guests the ability to abandon the car and walk from the door and enjoy the beautiful Derbyshire countryside that surrounds it. • Such a great little place tucked away in a little quiet street in quirky Wirksworth! 10 seconds to the main street and the shops and restaurants - look out for the ‘real ales, craft beers and vinyl’ place! The house was super clean and super quiet. The bed was amazingly comfy and the shower was good too! What else could you want? Lots to see in the area - beautiful countryside and loads of history. Highly recommend!

  • We had a lovely time at Hillside Cottage. The cottage is small but perfect for a short break, comfortable, tastefully decorated and well equipped, even an espresso machine. We were luckily able to make use of the delightful garden in the evening to sit out and have drink overlooking the village. The access is quite steep and parking a little way from the house, but this didn't present a problem.

    Phil2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Hillside Cottage is delightful, warm, cosy and immaculate with all day sunshine and gorgeous views over the hills. Tiina was very helpful and accommodating, very much appreciated.

Plus Tiina left some awesome homemade carrot cake muffins, such a lovely little touch!

  • Tiina was very accommodating to our needs and provided excellent communication. We booked at very short notice and were made to feel welcome right from the start. The cottage was very cute and immaculate throughout with an extremely well equipped kitchen which meant we were able to cook in. Our visit to Chatsworth House and farm shop and a cycle around Carssington reservoir added to our positive experience.

    Deborah2015-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage. Nice and cosy and very well equipped. Tiina was great to deal with and the cottage was lovely and clean when we arrived. Hopefully we will return one day.

    Matthew2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Tiinas cottage. The cottage itself is small and cosy, it has everything you need for a great stay. Overall, it is extremely comfortable and in the most beautiful area. The sun was shining which made it even lovelier! Tiina left a very helpful guide to everything in the cottage and good things to do in the surrounding areas- we enjoyed a takeaway from the indian restaurant and also brunch at The Greenway Cafe, which was delicious! Thank you for a lovely stay. We will be back next year!

The smaller of the two 18th century conversions, but no less charming. Beautifully designed & warmly welcoming - a little boho bolt hole. Double bed is on a sleeping platform. Wet room, & kitchen facilities including microwave, toaster & kettle. Use of courtyard and garden and new this year our cozy garden room with record player, books and seats with sheepskin throws to chill out in.
Historic conversions within the wild beauty of the Peak District.
Wirksworth is a vibrant, arty market town with great pubs and restaurants. It boasts a number of independent shops including vintage and antique shops, delis and coffee shops. Within 2 minutes of open countryside.
  • A perfect get away for the weekend. Really enjoyed staying in the brew house it was very cosy and all the little touches were appreciated like the filter coffee and the unusual bar of soap! A great location as well with a good french restaurant across the road. Would stay again.

    Jon2016-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in Wirksworth. Steve was a great welcoming host, happy to accommodate our arrival time and gave us great recommendations on when to eat and drink. I wish I could have stayed longer and I would definitely stay again.

    Stefan2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Sue are examplary hosts. You are made to feel like you are staying with friends. The accommodation is small put perfectly formed with all you will need to have a comfortable stay. The accommodation is decorated in such a way that you just want to explore it what with the secret garden and the platform beds it more like a little adventures . Will without doubt stay again and hopefully be able to take advantage of the gardens in better weather

    Susan2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the place - it's like a hidden gem. We were welcomed by Steve's daughter in law who was really friendly and showed as around, into the 'secret garden' too. As someone didn't turn up to their booking we were upgraded to the washroom which is slightly bigger which was kind. We had a fantastic meal at Le Mistral - there are a few pubs in the town too (still peaceful but nice not to be on the middle of nowhere). The place is very close to Dovedale and other beautiful spots in the peaks so it was perfect. The bed is up on a platform which was fine for us but may be tricky if you're tall. I'd love to return for longer.

    Joanna2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was extremely welcoming, giving us a warm, friendly and informative introduction to Wirksworth. Steve and Sue made us feel right at home, despite being off on their own holiday shortly after we arrived! The Brew House itself is wonderfully cosy affair, tastefully decorated and perfect for a weekend getaway to the Peak District. Highly recommended, and we're planning on returning with friends next year!

    Joe2016-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was a great host - he was very helpful and gave us some great tips for things to do in the village - the craft beer shop was super!

    Chris2017-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and his partner Sue made us feel really welcome, there was nothing they couldn't help us with. Steve is hilarious and has impeccable music taste! They were full of recommendations which were really helpful and the place was decorated to perfection!

Set on Matlock Bank in the centre of Matlock the cottage built in 1742 has a garden, patio, log burner in the lounge, full kitchen and bathroom with bath and separate shower, two bedrooms with super king size double beds (one of which can be split into two single beds upon request).
Homely warm cottage with lots of attention to detail - having worked in the hospitality business all my life I try and make sure the cottage is presented with everything I need and look for when travelling.
Matlock Bank at one time was a village in its own right so there are still a number of useful shops on the street.
  • What an absolute gem this place is ! Gorgeous and quaint and spotlessly clean. The beds are amazingly comfy and even down to the little touch of a bottle of wine to greet us !! This cottage is highly recommended xx

    Jenny2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage with lots of lovely features. We really enjoyed our stay. The parking is VERY tight - i had a mini and struggled but lots of on street parking over the weekend so no problem. would definitely stay again.

    Naomi2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This guesthouse has off street parking which we didn't have to use because of street parking just across the street. Matlock is a very cute Derbyshire town with a lot of antique stores down the hill from Martin's place. Across the street is a shop run by Mark who was very informative about local Ales and gave us good directions to local places. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean and in good order. We enjoyed the balcony for a few hours before the sun went down

    Dan2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay at this lovely cottage, very cosy and quirky rooms. Martin was more than helpful in the run up to the booking with lots of communication and local info. Can't recommend enough!

    James2016-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in this warm & cosy cottage- it was a home from home for us, and a perfect base from which to explore the Peaks. We hope to stay again!

    Helen2018-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks to Matin and Carol we had an excellent stay. Unfortunatly we were only able to stay for one night, and once we'd seen the cottage we were even more sad that it was only one night. It was perfect for us (two couples) as the rooms are lovely (gorgeously fresh bedding!!) and there was a very well equipped kitched which we used to make a great evening meal and breakfast the next morning. We couldn't quite squeeze our car in the parking space, as the other cottage guests weren't parked over enough, but this wasn't an issue in the end (we just trapped them in and waited for the knock at the door). All in all a fantastic place to stay! Thanks for the bottle of wine!!

  • What a fantastic weekend we had at the Cosy Cottage! Thank you very much to Sally-Anne for the lovely chocolates that were left for us for valentines weekend. What a lovely gesture. We fell in love with Wirksworth, what a beautiful place! The local pubs and shops were extremely friendly and we made use of the dvd rental at the local shop; £1-£2 for 24 hours! The cottage was perfect, it lived up to its name; definitely cosy and snug! It was great for us! Thanks for such a great stay. It was the perfect cottage in the perfect location and we will definitely be back!

    Jenna2016-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We found the cottage convenient, comfortable and beautifully furnished. Our little car did struggle up the hill on arrival (turning around & pulling in to drop off bags) but we were aware that it'd be steep. We parked elsewhere as advised. We had everything we needed: walks from the doorstep, shops to browse, restaurants to eat in (yes, Le Mistral was a worthwhile recommendation) and, luckily, great weather for a superb weekend stay. Thanks a lot.

    Helena2016-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first experience of Airbnb & exceeded my expectations. The cottage was comfortable & ideally located for exploring both the town of Wirksworth & Peak District. Sally-Anne made us feel very welcome & we found everyone in the town to be friendly & helpful. Wirksworth has a fantastic French bistro, great takeaway, delicious deli & more.

    Caroline2015-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Spent a wonderful weekend in the Cosy Cottage in Wirksworth. Sally-Anne was a great communicator and it was very easy to book and the key and instructions were all set for when we arrived. We never saw Sally-Anne, but knew she was around the corner if we needed her and we really didn't need to contact her because the cottage is charming and had absolutely everything we needed to feel right at home. The décor is really lovely, the kitchen was well stocked with cooking implements, the games/movies kept us entertained, and there was a great supply of guide books/maps and suggestions for hikes (the one that takes you up the road the cottage is on and around the quarry is excellent). We loved Wirksworth and had a delicious meal at Le Mistral and really enjoyed exploring the lovely town perched on the side of a hill. It's true that the street is quite small and steep, but we easily found parking in a lot the night we arrived, and then street parking the next night. This really is an ideal Air BnB (one the top of my list of ones I have stayed in) and we particularly loved the chocolates that were left for us. Thank you!

  • We had a really enjoyable weekend in the Cosy Cottage. It was clean, warm, beautifully furnished, and the perfect hideout for a rainy winter evening! The kitchen was well-equipped and we felt very at home here. Thank you very much!

  • The stay at the Cosy Cottage was a great experience. The location of the cottage was excellent - just on the edge of the village, from where we could do our walks (though it was on quite a steep hill; we did get a little bit of a work-out!). The cottage itself was lovely and cosy, living up to its name. On our arrival, there was a box of chocolates on the table, which was a nice, welcoming touch! We would definitely return again!

  • The cottage was in a fantastic location, in the heart of Wirksworth village. Sally-Anne welcomed us with biscuits and the flat was tidy and a perfect place to relax after the wedding we attended nearby. I absent-mindedly left a small bag with my keys under the bed and Sally-Anne sweetly posted it back to me the next day!

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate newly renovated bathroom is for your private use. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (all homemade where possible). You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & Co-Op in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth. We are also with easy reach of a number of local wedding venues including Haarlem Mill (10 min walking distance), Shottle Hall and Alison House among others.
  • Sue and Andrew were great hosts. Very friendly and chatty with great helpful suggestions for my trip to the Peaks. Had instant and accurate recommendations for parking, eating, drinking and places to go during my stay. The addition of a private onsuite bathroom is a god-send for visitors, especially outdoorsy folk visiting the area. Bathroom itself is very nicely finished off. I would recommend this as a good place to stay.

  • Andrew and Sue were both there to greet me, with a much needed cup of tea. Delightful warm and friendly hosts.

  • A sparklingly clean house with plenty of space and nice touches. The home made jam at breakfast was lovely as was the fresh cut fruit.

  • Great hosts and amenities including private bathroom. Quiet location with beautiful views from the room.

  • This was my fourth stay with Andrew and Sue and i hope not the last. I can only reiterate what I have already said about Andrews. A warm welcome into a lovely home. A spotlessly clean room and a private bathroom. I would recommend staying here to anyone, I know I will be going back when next working in the area.

  • We stayed at Andrews and Sue's on route home from the Lake District stopping one night. We had a warm welcome on our arrival, Andrew was very helpful providing local information. Every thing was clean and as advertised. We had their home made jam for breakfast and purchased a jar to take home. They were both very friendly people. We would stay with them again if in the area.

Tower Cottage is a detached, 3 storey stone cottage for up to 4 guests in the heart of Wirksworth with its rich history and beautiful situation. The cottage has a double and a single bedroom (with pull out bed) and a shower room. There is a fully fitted kitchen and a sitting room with log burning stove. There is a patio garden, bike store and terraced gardens around the house with beautiful hill views. Sorry, no pets.
When we first set our eyes on the cottage we fell in love with it. We christened it Tower Cottage as everyone who has seen it, says it's like a little tower... which it is. The cottage is in a beautiful & quiet location tucked away up 'The Dale', which is one of the oldest parts of Wirksworth. It is rare to find such peace in a town dwelling, with virtually no traffic in the vicinity and yet just minutes away, the activities and amenities of a bustling market town. We don't know much about the history of the cottage yet but it was probably a miner's or quarry man's cottage, like many of those around it. It has been lovingly restored to modern standards, with double glazing & good insulation, whilst retaining original features. We have decorated the cottage with a mix of old and new and reflected the colours and images of nature and the stunning Derbyshire Dales and Peaks. Please note the second bedroom is on the ground floor next to the living room and the main bedroom is 2 flights of stairs away on the second floor and so children sleeping downstairs will be some way from you. The second flight of stairs are steep and have a tight turn and so may prove tricky if you have mobility issues. Wirksworth is famous for its quirky alleyways, jittys and ginnels - a network of walkways that run between the houses, perched perilously on the edges of the old quarry workings. Many say 'The Dale' area reminds them of a Cornish fishing village but without the sea. So, come and visit our cottage and explore for yourselves and let the stresses of life just slip away!
The market town of Wirksworth ('The Gem of The Peak') is of considerable historical interest and is a popular location for the exploration of the Peak District. Its uniqueness and friendliness make it one of the most appealing and fascinating towns in the area. There are fabulous walks from the door, cycle trails, a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall, individual local shops, farmers market on the first Saturday of each month, restaurants, tea rooms, bistro, several public houses, an independent cinema and a heritage centre. Every year at Spring Bank holiday, Wirksworth holds its annual Well Dressing ceremonies and carnival. In September the town celebrates the talents of local, national and international artists, along with performers of all descriptions, when it holds its prestigious annual Arts Festival. Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway and operates passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel rail cars. An eclectic range of events run throughout the year in Wirksworth. Many of these take place at the Town Hall but also at the Star Disc (a representation in granite of the Northern Constellation), on a hill in Stoney Wood, near the cottage. With easy access to attractions in the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District, Wirksworth is also convenient for Cromford, Matlock, Ashbourne, Buxton and Derby.
  • Tower Cottage is a fantastic place to stay! The cottage is really beautiful and has everything that you need. Karen was a great host, providing information and all home comforts. We would stay again. Wirksworth itself is also lovely, very quiet and peaceful with stunning views, also with plenty of shops and cafes/restaurants.

  • Beautifully furnished and charming cottage. Feels like a home from home. We loved staying in Tower Cottage and to returning. Wirksworth is charming and pretty. Would highly recommend.

  • Beautiful three storey cottage tucked behind others, clean and cozy with a wood burner and central to Wirksworth. As a couple it was fantastic and met all of our needs although over three storeys with steep stairs to the master bedroom on the top floor it might not be suitable for all. A great location to explore the peak district and surrounding area from, or even just a walk to the top of the road - we absolutely loved our stay!

  • Tower Cottage is beautiful. I almost don't want to review it in case I can never book it again. Karen was the perfect host, giving clear instructions and letting me get on with enjoying my break. Wirksworth is a beautiful town with lots of interesting places to explore but it is also on the doorstep of the Peak District which opens up many opportunities for sightseeing and exploring. I highly recommend Tower Cottage, it really is the perfect hidden gem.

  • Beautiful cottage in an idyllic location. Very close to the amenities in town. Excellent value for money. Excellent hosts. Cannot wait to return!

  • We had a great stay in this lovely cottage. It is decorated beautifully, cosy but enough space for 4 adults staying here. It had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The cottage is a couple of minutes walk into wirksworth very close to local pubs, cafes, restaurants and unique shops. The gardens are very quaint with some stunning views we would have loved to have spent more time outside but unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to!! The hosts were great, excellent communication from when we booked, clear instructions and easy check in. Thanks again for a stay!!

  • A simply gorgeous little place in a lovely little town. Karen made it possible to accommodate us when it wasn't completely convenient to her which we really appreciated and communication from her was faultless. The house is beautifully furnished and had everything we needed and more. We were completely aware of the set up of the house that she happily shared with us, that the small single or twin room is next to the living room and away from the bathroom and double bedroom. This wasn't at all a problem apart from our giggly girls (age 7 and 4) who slightly disturbed us while we relaxed in the evenings! The log burner was brilliant and Karen has included an amazing folder full of local information. Wirksworth itself is a lovely place and we made use of the various shops (bakery, Ken's, the deli, fair trade shop too) and our only disappointment was a meal at Le Mistral with average food for me, a delicious but small portion of food for my husband and a pudding which hadn't been finished and was cold! We wished we'd tried out other options as there seem to be some nice places to try in this quirky town. We'd highly recommend the tower, town and local area.

  • Beautiful stay in Amelia's cottage. Stephen is a great host, beautiful location and even more beautiful little cottage. Local pubs sold great food and the goats were so friendly

  • A beautiful place to stay in a beautiful setting. You'll leave wishing you could stay for longer. The stone work on the house is breathtaking, our girls said I should ask Stephen if we could move in! Having a rural home in France ourselves, made us feel at home. We will be back. Its clean, presentable and Stephen is a lovely character and a great host. Fridge was stocked with bread, yogurts, cheese etc - a nice touch. Oh and the goats are so friendly, not the type that run at you butting you with their heads (yes ive experienced that type too!). My advise, book a stay now before I convince Stephen to let us move in!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It was the perfect location for our reunion and there was everything we needed to make our stay comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable. Eleanor was very helpful and quick in replying with the couple of queries we had before our visit and the hamper was a lovely surprise! We would definitely recommend it and hopefully we'll be back one day.

I had a great experience staying with Janet. The room is beautiful, with a very comfy bed, and it's light and airy. Janet was very helpful, friendly and relaxed and provided everything I needed, including fresh warm croissants for breakfast and tea when I eventually got up! Jack the dog is very friendly and very sweet; a definite plus point! The location is very convenient, just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. I recommend it highly and would certainly stay there again.
